Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a circuit switched telephone network system designed to allow digital transmission of voice and data over ordinary telephone copper lines.

There are two types of services associated with ISDN:

PRI (Primary Rate Interface)
BRI (Basic Rate Interface)

ISDN PRI offers 30B channels and 2D channels where B operates at 64kbps. Thus a 2048kbps line is formed which is primarily used for:

High speed data transfer
Leased line backup

ISDN BRI offers 2B channels and one D channel, where B operates at 64kbps. Thus a 128Kbps line is formed which is primarily used for:
